The Law Firm of Ronald G. Poliquin is a dedicated to fighting for the rights of employees and civil rights victims. The office is located at 48 The Green, 2nd Floor, Dover, Delaware 19901. It is the only law firm in Kent or Sussex County dedicated to solely representing plaintiffs in employment and civil rights case.
“I represent plaintiffs wronged by a individuals in power, usually either a big corporation or a government bureaucracy, whose only recourse is to fight back through our constitutionally created civil justice system,” said Poliquin, “There’s no better challenge than David versus Goliath”.
“Quite frankly, I’m the guy other lawyers refer cases to when they don’t know when to send them,” said Poliquin.
Poliquin new firm achieved its first major victory just after opening its doors when a Kent County Superior Court jury returned a unanimous verdict of $103,000.00 against the Delaware Harness Racing Commission in favor of the Commission’s former Presiding Judge Donald L. Harmon. The basis of the lawsuit was the Commission’s decision to terminate Harmon. “My client waited a long time to have his day in Court,” said Poliquin. “I am especially proud to accomplish this great trial success for my client after immediately opening my new law firm.”
Poliquin would especially like to greatly expand his practice in the area of unpaid overtime and wages. Especially in this turbulent economy, more and more employees are working overtime and not being paid the legally required time and a half. Basically, employers are taking advantage of employees fearful of losing their job when in fact it’s illegal for employers to retaliate against an employee for filing a claim of unpaid overtime.
Poliquin’s career has been marked by cases representing plaintiffs against bureaucratic establishments. He represented internationally renowned Canadian equestrian rider Melia Blakely in the highly publicized Title IX case against Delaware State University last year. As a first-year lawyer, Poliquin successfully litigated a groundbreaking Taxpayer Rights case declaring that over $220 million dollars in taxpayers funds were being stockpiled illegally by government officials in Korn v. New Castle County. In addition, Ron represented a group of Cape Henlopen taxpayers in a case which alleging that contractors subverted the legally mandated procurement process in the building of new high school resulting in a $50,000.00 scholarship fund for local high school students promoting open and honest government.
Poliquin’s cases have been featured in publications such as USA Today, The Toronto Star, The Heartland Institute’s Budget and Tax News, and Delaware Law Weekly.
He is a member of the National Employee Lawyers Association, Delaware Trial Lawyer Association and the American Association for Justice.
Poliquin regularly volunteers to represent domestic abuse victims earning a spot on the Delaware Volunteer Legal Services' Honor Roll every year he’s been a member of the Bar.
Ron and his wife Maria have a three (3) year old son Ronin and a two (2) year old daughter, Lillian. They are parishioners at Holy Cross Church where Maria serves as the Executive Officer on the Parish Council.
Poliquin graduated from Eureka College in 2000 and received his Juris Doctor from Widener Law School in 2003. At Eureka, Ron earned a bachelor’s degree in History. Ron was also a stand out football player earning All Conference Honors, being awarded the Nick's Award as the school's Outstanding Offensive Lineman three years in a row, and was named team captain his senior year. Ron then went on to earn his Juris Doctorate from Widener University School of Law. At Widener, Ron was a member of the Moe Levine Trial Advocacy Honor Society, Widener Law Rugby Club, and awarded the Dean Arthur Weeks Student Leadership Award for his exemplary leadership as President of the Widener Law Republican Caucus upon graduation.
